A Home Where Girls Learn, Grow and Thrive

The MJC Hostel is an integral part of our commitment to empowering the girl child. With a capacity of around 500 students, the hostel provides a safe, supportive and inclusive residential environment where girls can live, study, develop skills and participate fully in campus life.

Facilities and Services

Our facilities are designed not only for comfort and wellbeing, but also to encourage independence, confidence, creativity, healthy living and community life.

Spacious & Comfortable Accommodation

The hostel accommodates up to 500 students in spacious rooms designed for either four or eight students. Each room has an attached washroom, providing privacy, convenience and ease of living.

The shared-room arrangement also encourages friendship, cooperation and a sense of community. The residential environment is supervised and structured to ensure that students have the support they need while gradually developing independence and responsibility.

Health & Medical Care

The health and wellbeing of every student is a priority at MJC. A dedicated medical room is available on campus for basic healthcare and first aid, with appropriate medical support provided whenever required.

Students' health is monitored and preventive care is encouraged. A hospital located in the vicinity, KMCH, provides access to further medical assistance when necessary, giving students and their families the reassurance of timely healthcare.

Nutritious Food & Dining

The hostel provides students with nutritious, balanced and wholesome meals designed to meet the needs of growing young women. The menu is varied regularly to provide both nutritional balance and variety.

A dedicated kitchen and dining facility supports the preparation and serving of meals for the residential community. Hygiene, food quality and cleanliness are given importance throughout the process. The vegetables used in the kitchen are mostly grown at the campus itself.

Kitchen & Food Facilities

The hostel kitchen is designed to support the preparation of large-scale, nutritious meals while maintaining high standards of hygiene, safety and efficiency.

Modern cooking equipment and appropriate food-preparation facilities enable the kitchen team to cater to the needs of the residential community. The kitchen also provides an opportunity for students to understand the importance of nutrition, food hygiene and responsible food practices.

Library & Reading Facilities

A well-stocked library and reading area provides students with access to books, newspapers and other reading resources.

The space encourages students to develop the habit of reading beyond their academic curriculum. It provides a quiet environment for study, self-learning and exploration of subjects and ideas that broaden their understanding of the world.

Computer Labs & Digital Learning

Students have access to computer laboratories with internet connectivity, under appropriate supervision.

Digital access supports academic learning, research, communication and the development of essential technology skills. Smart boards and digital learning facilities further enhance the educational experience and help students become more comfortable with technology.

Tailoring & Skills Development Room

A well-equipped tailoring room provides students with an opportunity to learn practical sewing and garment-making skills.

Beyond being a creative activity, tailoring can develop patience, precision and confidence while providing a potentially valuable livelihood skill. Such practical learning forms an important part of MJC's larger objective of helping girls become skilled and economically self-reliant. The girls also learn knitting, crochet, embroidery, gardening, cooking, baking and soap making as part of their skill development program.

Self-Grooming Room

The hostel includes a dedicated self-grooming facility where students can learn and practise personal grooming and self-care. A dedicated trainer is engaged to teach the students.

The space supports the development of confidence, personal presentation and everyday life skills. It is part of MJC's holistic approach to preparing girls not only academically, but also for independent adult life.

Sports & Athletics

Sport is an important part of life at MJC. The campus provides extensive opportunities for students to play and participate in football, cricket, volleyball, kho-kho, athletics and other sporting activities.

Sports help students develop physical fitness, discipline, teamwork, resilience and leadership. Participation is encouraged not merely for competition, but as an essential part of healthy and confident development.

Indoor Sports Areas

Dedicated play and recreational spaces allow students to relax, socialise and enjoy time outside their academic commitments.

These spaces encourage indoor/outdoor activity, friendship and community building. A healthy balance between study, recreation and physical activity is an important part of residential life at MJC.

Television & Recreation

A television facility in the common area provides students with opportunities for wholesome entertainment and shared viewing, particularly during weekends and special occasions.

The common space also serves as a place where students can relax together, enjoy programmes and participate in celebrations and special activities.

Auditorium & Performance Spaces

MJC has a large auditorium with a seating capacity of more than 2,000 people, providing a major venue for institutional events, cultural programmes, performances, conferences and celebrations.

The auditorium enables students to participate in and experience large-scale events, helping build confidence, communication skills and a sense of community.

Conference & Seminar Halls

The campus includes conference and meeting halls that support academic programmes, workshops, training sessions, meetings, seminars and institutional events.

These spaces also enable MJC to bring together educators, professionals, organisations, alumni and other stakeholders for learning and collaboration.

Large Courtyard & Event Space

A spacious central courtyard provides an important outdoor gathering space within the campus.

It is used for celebrations, cultural programmes, community activities and other events. The courtyard creates a vibrant shared space where students and the wider MJC community can come together.

Dining & Community Spaces

The dining facilities are designed to serve the residential community in a comfortable and organised environment.

Beyond mealtimes, shared dining plays an important role in hostel life. It encourages interaction, friendship and a sense of belonging, making the hostel feel less like accommodation and more like a community that students can call home.

Connectivity & Communication

Communication facilities are available to enable students to remain connected with their families and support networks.

The hostel environment balances appropriate communication with the need for students to develop independence, responsibility and healthy social relationships.

Remedial Classes

Remedial classes for English, Tamil and Numeracy are regularly conducted to ensure that new joiners do not feel left out and can manage the pace of learning.

More Than a Hostel

At MJC, the hostel is much more than a place to stay. It is a home, a learning environment and a community—where girls are supported to study, develop skills, discover their interests, participate in sport, build friendships and grow in confidence.

Every facility is designed with one larger purpose: to create an environment in which a girl can feel safe, valued, capable and empowered to shape her own future.

Safety & Security

The safety and wellbeing of our students is a fundamental responsibility at MJC. Our campus is designed to provide girls with a secure, supervised and nurturing environment in which they can learn, live and grow with confidence.

The entire campus is secured by boundary walls and controlled entry and exit points, with trained security personnel on duty to monitor access to the campus.

A network of CCTV cameras provides surveillance across key areas of the campus, supporting continuous monitoring and helping maintain a safe environment.

The residential facilities are supported by staff members who live on campus, ensuring that responsible adults are available to support students and respond when required.

The hostel and academic areas operate within a structured and supervised environment, with appropriate systems for student movement, attendance and access.

Medical support is readily available through the campus medical facility and nearby hospital, ensuring timely attention when required.

The campus also provides well-maintained lighting and safe common spaces, allowing students to move comfortably between their residential, academic, recreational and activity areas.

Students are supported by wardens, teachers and other members of the MJC community who know them and are attentive to their wellbeing.

Our approach to safety goes beyond physical security. We believe that girls thrive best in an environment where they feel respected, heard, cared for and valued.

We therefore work to create a culture of responsibility, mutual respect, discipline and dignity, where students learn to look after themselves and one another.

At MJC, safety is not just about protecting our girls. It is about creating an environment where every girl feels secure enough to learn, confident enough to explore and free enough to grow.
